Summer Course in Indian Culture & Spirituality
Day 1 Theme : The advent of pure love
Sairam. With the Divine Blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, a spiritually uplifting three-day Summer Course in Indian Culture and Spirituality was conducted from 5th to 7th June, 2025, focusing on the theme “Indian Culture and Spirituality” as demonstrated and lived by Bhagawan Himself. The event aimed to instill in students the timeless values of Bharatiya culture and deepen their connection with spiritual life. The first day, beautifully themed “The Birth of Pure Love,” unfolded with divine grace as students creatively took on the roles of Lord Krishna and His students, acting as comperes who introduced the day’s events with joy and reverence. The auspicious proceedings began with the hoisting of the Prasanthi Flag by the Chief Guest, Sri Anand Nergunam, Vice President, Revenue Management and Growth, Zoho Corporation, Chennai, and a proud alumnus of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL). This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the Lamp of Love, symbolizing the removal of darkness and the awakening of inner light. The sacred chants of Veda Parayanam, rendered by the students, sanctified the atmosphere, invoking divine vibrations and blessings.
The inaugural session began with a warm welcome address by the Correspondent, Sri S. Loganathan, who eloquently spoke about the significance of conducting such a Summer Course for young minds. He emphasized that this was not just an educational event but a divine opportunity for character building and spiritual awakening. The Chief Guest, Sri Anand Nergunam, then addressed the students, passionately articulating the importance of Bharatiya Samskrithi (Indian Culture) in the lives of students. He presented five key principles that form the core of Indian culture and shared heart-touching personal experiences with Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, which left a profound impact on the tender hearts of the students. His words were not only informative but also deeply inspirational, strengthening the students’ faith in Swami and the path of righteousness.
Following this was another insightful session by Sri Srikanth G, Chief Financial Officer at Five Star Business Finance Ltd, also an alumnus of SSSIHL. He spoke on the theme “The Birth of Pure Love,” elaborating on the four types of people described in Indian wisdom: Atimadhaman (the worst of people), Adhaman (the inferior one), Madhiman (the average person), and Uttaman (the noble one). His speech, filled with real-life anecdotes and divine interactions with Bhagawan, emphasized the greatness of choosing to be an Uttaman—a person who does good even to those who harm him. He assured the students that now, having entered the fold of Sai, Swami Himself would guide, protect, and take care of them, as they were now Sai Students. Next, Dr. Umasivaraman, Educational Advisor, SSSIE (Deputy Commissioner, KV Sangathan, Ernakulam Region (Retd.) gave a motivational speech advising the young generation to lead a stress free and peaceful life using spirituality.
The spiritual tone of the day gracefully transitioned into the Investiture Ceremony for the academic year 2024–2025. Sri S. Loganathan introduced the newly appointed House Captains and Vice-Captains, along with the teachers-in-charge of the four value-based houses—Sathya (Truth), Dharma (Righteousness), Shanti (Peace), and Prema (Love). He also outlined their roles and responsibilities, encouraging them to lead by example and uphold the values of Sai in all activities. Following this, teachers presented value-based cultural and educational programs, aimed at nurturing the moral and spiritual development of the students and guiding them on their journey toward inner transformation.
In the afternoon session, students had the opportunity to interact with their new class Gurus, fostering a sense of comfort, bonding, and enthusiasm for the upcoming academic year. This was followed by an engaging and joyful series of value-based games, which included fun activities like “Water Flip,” “Balloon Balance,” and “XO Game”—all designed to promote teamwork, creativity, and character-building in a playful environment. After the games, a draw was held where the House Captains randomly selected characters for the drama to be enacted on Day 2 of the Summer Course, adding a sense of excitement and anticipation among the students. The afternoon session came to a blissful close with Shanti Mantra chanting, marking the end of a day that was rich with learning, joy, devotion, and divine inspiration.
The day’s proceedings concluded on a peaceful note with the chanting of the Shanti Mantra, enveloping everyone in an atmosphere of calmness and gratitude. In the evening, the audience was treated to a soulful flute recital by Sri Jayakumar, a dedicated teacher and flute instructor at SSSIE. His performance, both technically brilliant and spiritually elevating, was a highlight of the day. In appreciation of his contribution, Sri S. Loganathan warmly felicitated the artist, expressing gratitude on behalf of the institution. The session concluded with Shanti Mantra. Sairam.

Day 2 Theme : My life is My Message – Baba
The second day of the Summer Course in Indian Culture and Spirituality unfolded with an aura of devotion, reflection, and learning, centered around the powerful theme, “My Life is My Message.”
The session commenced with an inspirational and deeply moving address by Mrs. Sai Priya, Former District Educational Coordinator of Chennai Metro West District, SSSSO Tamil Nadu. Her opening question, “Are you all aware of Swami’s early life?”, instantly engaged the audience and set the tone for a heart-touching narrative.
Mrs. Sai Priya shared a series of profound and emotional anecdotes from the early life of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Each story underscored His unwavering spirit of selfless service, love, and compassion, even during His formative years. A particularly moving incident she narrated was when Swami was seen carefully selecting sarees. When asked by the sevadals for whom these were intended, He gently responded, “This saree is for the woman who is washing vessels in the kitchen.” This simple moment carried a powerful message – Swami’s attention for the smallest acts of service and the dignity of labour.
Following this elevating talk, the atmosphere transformed with a vibrant house-wise creative role-play competition. Each house had 10 minutes to present a skit embodying timeless values and moral lessons. Though concise, the performances were bursting with energy, creativity, and spiritual depth – leaving the audience inspired and applauding.
After a short refreshment break, the learning journey resumed with a dynamic session led by Sri Anand Velu, Senior Manager at TCS and State Disaster Management In-Charge, SSSSO Tamil Nadu (North). His session, titled “Rama, Krishna & Sai – Three but One,” was a unique blend of spiritual insight and practical wisdom.
With an engaging and interactive approach, he also illustrated essential disaster management techniques while drawing parallels to the divine traits of Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, and Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba – emphasizing unity in divinity. The morning session concluded with a nourishing lunch, fuelling both body and spirit.
The afternoon began on a lighter and more interactive note within the classrooms. Students – both new and returning – along with teachers continued the ice-breaking session, sharing their holiday experiences and getting to know one another.
This was followed by one of the most anticipated events of the day – a high-spirited quiz competition on “Bharatiya Sanskrithi”. Conducted house-wise, the quiz was divided into five thrilling rounds, covering a range of topics such as Sathya Sai’s life and teachings, Indian history, general knowledge, and cultural wisdom. Each team competed with zeal and focus, reflecting both preparation and passion.
Post-quiz, the energy levels soared even higher with a unique segment of value-based games that challenged the creativity and coordination of participants. Activities included:
• Cooking Without Fire
• Creative Construction Using Straws
• Art Without Colours
• House Captains’ Challenge – a surprise multi-skill competition that tested leadership, strategy, and teamwork.
The session concluded on a serene and spiritual note with Mangala Aarathi offered to our beloved Bhagawan, filling the hall with vibrations of gratitude and divine love.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the Evening Session unfolded in an atmosphere of deep devotion and aesthetic splendour. The session commenced with soul-stirring bhajans, sung with heartfelt devotion, resonating through the hall and creating a divine ambiance. The melodious voices, accompanied by rhythmic claps and traditional instruments, elevated the spiritual energy and set a perfect tone for what was to follow.
What came next was truly a feast for the senses and the soul — an enchanting Bharatanatyam recital by the talented students of Kalanayanam School of Dance, under the expert guidance of their Guru, Mrs. Durga Lakshmi. The performance was nothing short of magical — a seamless flow of graceful movements, expressive storytelling, and devotional fervour, all unfolding without a single pause. The dancers, adorned in vibrant traditional attire, brought ancient scriptures and divine episodes to life with each precise step and gesture. Their dedication, discipline, and devotion captivated the audience, leaving many in awe and some visibly moved. It was, in every sense, a mesmerizing and spiritually uplifting experience — a visual symphony that was as eye-soothing as it was heart-touching. The glorious evening drew to a close with Shanti Mantra chanting.

Day 3 Theme: Your life is My Message – Baba

he third day of our life-enriching summer course unfolded with divinity in the air and a sense of sacred purpose in every heart. The day began with the deeply resonant chanting of Omkaram and Suprabhatam, followed by the invigorating Nagarsankeerthan that echoed through the morning stillness, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere.

The Morning Assembly elevated the collective spirit with powerful Vedic chants and soul-stirring bhajans. It was a serene invocation that prepared everyone for a day immersed in learning, reflection, and transformation.
The morning’s keynote address was delivered by Smt. J. Sai Laavanya, an esteemed alumnus of SSSIHL and the dynamic State Co-ordinator of the Sri Sathya Sai National Council for Schools. Speaking on the topic “The Role of a Sai Student,” she offered a compelling roadmap for young aspirants. She emphasized not just what to do, but how, where, and why a Sai student must act—with purity, sincerity, and unwavering dedication. She passionately urged everyone to engage in Seva, reiterating Bhagawan’s profound teaching: “Service to Mankind is Service to God.” Each student submitted a list of selfless offerings they intended to dedicate at the divine lotus feet of Swami upon completing their studies from the portals of the campus.
Next came a vibrant panel discussion by the students, masterfully guided by Mrs. Mohana Lakshmi, Primary Mathematics Faculty. The topic, “EHV is 3HV (Education in Human values is nothing but the unity head(thoughts), heart(seat of values), hands(actions)), was explored through a rich blend of Vedantic insights, practical wisdom, and personal experiences. Concepts like Advaita Vedanta, heart-centered learning, and thinking before acting were articulated with eloquence. It was a powerful demonstration of values-based education in action.
Following a short value break, the audience was enthralled by a soul-awakening talk from Sri Ganesh, Consultant at TCS, Chennai; a devoted Balvikas Guru; and a senior member of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Tamil Nadu. His session titled “Education is not for Living, It is for Life” was nothing short of revolutionary. With conviction and clarity, he redefined education as a lifelong journey of transformation, not merely a tool for earning a livelihood.
He began by explaining that it is only human beings who attend school, not dogs, monkeys, or inanimate objects before us.
He elaborated on a beautiful spiritual metaphor that left an indelible mark on all present:
• A Graduate, he said, is one who embodies Love, Seva (selfless service), and Sadhana (spiritual discipline).
• A Master’s Degree symbolizes mastery over the mind, body, senses, and time.
• And a PhD is not earned in a university, but through life itself—standing for Pure Hearted Devotee, one who lives by love, practices unwavering faith, and walks the path of righteousness, which was said by our swamy.
He concluded with Swami’s eternal teaching: “The End of Education is Character.” The hall fell silent, not out of emptiness, but in deep inner reflection. It was a session that didn’t just inform; it transformed.
After an energizing lunch break, the afternoon shifted to a lighter, interactive mode. Students and teachers engaged in spirited discussions about their summer course takeaways and holiday assignments. The joy of learning was matched by the thrill of value-based games like the adventurous Treasure Hunt, with clues cleverly hidden in the nooks and crannies of the school campus. Classic games like Lemon-and-Spoon for the primary section and unity-driven team activities added to the afternoon’s joy.
The grand finale of the day was the Valedictory Ceremony, presided over by Swami Yajnapurshananda, monk of the Ramakrishna Mission, Chengalpattu. His motivational address stirred every soul in the hall as he passionately exhorted the youth to commit themselves to selfless service, spiritual discipline, and purposeful living. His words weren’t just inspiring, they were catalytic. He then felicitated all the teachers with a token of love, graciously offered by the Management. Mrs. Keerthana, TGT (Science), who secured an outstanding score of 99, missing a perfect centum by just one mark—was specially honoured with a gold coin.
Master L. Kaushik of Class XI, who emerged as the school topper in the Class X board examinations, was awarded a scholarship of ₹10,000 by the Correspondent, Sri S. Loganathan.
The day and indeed the course concluded with the collective recitation of the Summer Course Oath, affirming a lifelong commitment to Swami’s values. The school motto song ‘Tere Vandan Se…’ was rendered by all. Mangala Aarathi was offered to Swami, followed by National Anthem.
It
Day 3 wasn’t merely the end of a schedule. it was the dawn of a new beginning. A day where learning met devotion, where knowledge met character, and where students didn’t just attend a course, they embraced a way of life. Sairam
