With a noble objective to instill human values in young minds, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Educare has been hosting ‘Swadhyaya’ – an inter-school seminar on human values – for the past 21 years. Marking its 22nd year, the seminar was held on 19th July 2025, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, centered around the theme “Gratitude is Our Life-Breath.” Students from 11 schools in and around Chennai were invited to participate. The inaugural session commenced with a warm welcome by Ms. N. Vedhanayagi, Principal-in-Charge, who introduced the chief guest and judges.
The chief guest, Dr. A.R. Manjjuri, Principal of the College of Nursing at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Whitefield, Kadugodi Bengaluru, delivered an inspiring keynote address. She affirmed that “Character is the end of education” and urged students to embody the essential human values of Sathya (Truth), Dharma (Righteousness), Shanti (Peace), Prema (Love), and Ahimsa (Nonviolence)—as championed by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba—in their daily lives. She underscored that gratitude is a profound force capable of nurturing love and harmony within society. Sri K.N.Shekar, Trustee, Sai Educare Trust graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Smt. Poongothai, Primary Headmistress, expressed heartfelt appreciation in her vote of thanks.
Students were briefed on the seminar guidelines and evaluation criteria. A panel of seven distinguished judges, drawn from diverse professional backgrounds, assessed the teams based on their performance in Role Play, PowerPoint Presentation, Question & Answer Session, Team Collaboration, Poster Painting. Following the judges’ review, the valedictory session featured Dr. K.N. Shoba, Associate Professor, Department of Education, National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Ministry of Education, Government of India, Chennai, as the chief guest. In her address, Dr. Shoba traced the origin of the word “Education” to “Educare”, meaning “to bring forth what is within.” She commended the Institute for aligning its vision with this philosophy and emphasized that while AI is evolving, it cannot replicate the human qualities of empathy, compassion, and love that define a teacher.
Dr.K.Hariharan, Managing Trustee, Sai Educare Trust presented a memento to the chief guest as a token of love. Sri Thyagarajan, Spiritual Co-Ordinator, delivered the vote of thanks.
The overall championship shield with gold medals and certificates for the best performance was awarded to the participants from DAV school, Admbakkam, for their commendable performance in all the events of the Seminar. Modern Sr. Sec. School, Nanganallur, and Army Public School, Nandambakkam were awarded silver and bronze medals for securing the second and third places, respectively. All participants and their escort teachers received certificates and mementoes in recognition of their contributions. Sri C.Manikandan, Headmaster(Secondary) co-ordinated the prizes and certificates distribution.
Sri S. Loganathan, Correspondent, felicitated the guests and judges with tokens of appreciation. The seminar concluded on a reverent note with the National Anthem and Mangala Arathi to Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Jai Sairam.
