Importance of value education stressed
Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Educare, Nemilichery, has been
organising a yearly seminar on human values for the schools in
and around Chennai. The objective of the seminar is to provide
an occasion for the teachers and the students to contemplate on
the importance of values in human life.
The seminar also ventured to encourage teamwork among teachers
and students of classes VIII to X and to prescribe new solutions
for the modern ills in the light of values of ‘Sanathana
Dharma'.
A seminar on ‘Love seeks no reward, Love is its own reward' was
conducted on July 30. An exhibition was also organised to
highlight the Human Value ‘Love for Prema.'
The participating schools formed a team of five students from
classes VIII, IX and X. The team worked under the guidance of a
teacher and prepared their paper on the prescribed topic and
forwarded it to the school. A maximum of ten papers were
selected for the presentation.
While inaugurating the seminar, vocalist Anuradha Suresh
Krishnamurthy expressed her views on the importance of value
education in schools and requested all the institutions to
introduce value based system of education. She also shared her
personal experiences over winning or losing in various
competitions.
Correspondent of the school P. Kumaraswamy welcomed the
gathering.
Principal of the school, K. Saimeera congratulated the schools
whose papers were selected for presentation, shared her views
and gave a brief description of the methods of evaluation of the
seminar.
A panel of eminent judges drawn from various fields evaluated
the presentation of papers and exhibition by the different
schools.
The valedictory session was presided over by Madras Highcourt
Judge, D. Hari Paranthaman.
While distributing prizes to winners, he stressed on teaching
human values in schools and protecting them and he appreciated
the institution for taking efforts in implementing Value
Education in their system.
He also explained the role of youth in nation building. Padma
Seshadri Balabhavan Senior Secondary School, Nungambakkam, was
given the award for excellence.
