Seventh Seminar on Human Values

Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Educare, Nemillicherry, Chromepet is a CBSE School, offering free education in the pattern of Sathya Sai system of integral education. It is having hostel facilities for boys from VI to X standard.

Every year our school has been organizing a seminar on human values, for the schools in Kancheepuram district. The main objective of the seminar is to provide an occasion for the teachers and the students to contemplate on the importance of values in human life. The Seminar also ventures to encourage team work by the teachers and the students of classes VIII to X and to prescribe new solutions for the modern ills in the light of values of Sanadhana Dharma.

The participating schools form a team of five students from classes VIII, IX and X. The team will work together under the guidance of a teacher and prepare a paper on the prescribed topic and forward it to the school. A maximum of ten papers will be selected for the presentation. Each school will be allotted 30 min out of which 20 min will be for paper presentation using power point, followed by 10 min of question answer session.

So far since 2002 six seminars have been organized based on the main theme. This is the seventh seminar. The topic for the seminar was ‘Money comes and goes; Morality comes and grows’. The seminar was held on 27th July 2008, Sunday. The following ten schools from Kancheepuram district participated in the seminar and gave power point presentations on the topic.

The seminar was inaugurated by Shri. C. N. Ramdas, IAS, Secretary (Retd), Govt of India. In his inaugural address, he highlighted on the values of punctuality, the importance of practising love and the power of positive love. Sri P. Kumaraswamy, Correspondent of the school welcomed the gathering. The overview of the seminar was given by Smt. K.Saimeera, Principal of the school.

A panel of eminent judges drawn from various fields evaluated the presentation of papers by the different schools. The judges were Dr. C.S. Raju, GM (Retd), Neyveli Lignite Corp, Sri. V. Sangali, Principal (Retd), Raja Duraisingam Govt College, Sivaganga, Dr. T.Venugopal, Reader in Mathematics, Head (Science & Humanities), SCSVMV University, Kancheepuram, Sri. Karthick Ramesh and Sri. Niranjan, Dun & BradStreet & Analytical Pvt. Ltd., Chennai (both ex – students from the Sri Sathya Institute of Higher learning, Puttaparthi). Modern Senior Sec School, Nanganallur was given the Excellency Award for the best paper presentation.

The valedictory function was presided over by Shri. N.T. Arun Kumar, CEO, Dun & BradStreet & Analytical Pvt. Ltd., Chennai. In his speech, he expressed his deep gratitude to Swami. He also shared his rich experiences on humility, the gratitude one should have on his parents who are the greatest sources of learning and highlighted Service as the greatest purpose of knowledge.

The review of the seminar was given by Prof N.Shanmugam, (Retd) Education Officer of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Educational advisor of the school. With a lot of simple and effective illustrations, he explained clearly the meaning of morality and the need for morality against all odds in life.

The best team was awarded the rolling trophy and all the participating schools were given certificates and prizes. Vote of thanks was proposed by Smt. B. Uma, Vice – Principal of the school. The function concluded with the Mangala Aarathi.
